Raasepori, Finland Sept 2 - Oct 16 2024
Environmental art project funded by Creative Europe
Open call April 12th - May 12th 2024
Hub Feenix is a center of art and well-being in Raasepori, south-western Finland, 1 hour west from Helsinki, founded in the premises of the historic Meltola sanatorium in 2020.
In 2023, Hub Feenix started a residency program. During the first year 19 artists from 10 different countries visited Hub Feenix for 1-3 months.
With this residency opportunity, funded by Creative Europe, we wish to invite 5 international artists to enjoy the diverse facilities, the supportive and invigorating atmosphere and the inspiring premises and the nature around Hub Feenix.
The goal is a path of artworks created by the artists-in-residence in the forest surrounding Hub Feenix. The works can be created individually or together in groups, but all works will be part of the overall artwork formed by the art path.
The participating artists don’t necessarily need to have experience of this type of work before - this can be an opportunity to try something new. We see the project as an adventure we can all dive in together! The idea behind the art trail is to help the visitors to stop and open their senses to the wonder of forest nature.
At the end of the residency, an opening ceremony will be organised to which the local public is invited. The artworks will remain a part of Hub Feenix environment, and the art trail will be enjoyed by all the Hub Feenix visitors from the spring to the autumn.
The artistic goal of the residency is to realize a set of artworks for an actual art trail emerging in the forest of Hub Feenix. Artists can create works in collaboration, separately or both together and their own projects. Hub Feenix's workshop staff provides technical support and assistants are available.
Hub Feenix Residency may provide part of the basic materials, but the material choices are discussed together and the plan must be approved by the residency coordinators before starting the implementation.
The works should to some measure withstand the weather conditions of Finland: heavy rain and snow in the winter, and also possibly some harsh treatment from the local youth.
Each artist has their own private about 15m2 bedroom, shared kitchen and cozy living spaces in the 3rd floor of Hub Feenix.
Each participant will have a private 15m2 studio with view over the pine forests and 24 h access in the 4th floor artist wing of Hub Feenix.
include printmaking, ceramics, textiles, 3D-printing, wood and metal workshops, music room and a sound recording studio.
...are professional artists themselves. They introduce the artists to the opportunities of the house and support them in their work.
